    Hi,

I'm trying to implement SW Raid1 in a PC for my office so it becomes a small file server (not big, only 7 people will access it), I have 2 500 GB SATA HDs and my questions are the following:

    - If i'd like 2 partitions (1 for the SO and 1 for data storage), do i have to make the exact same partition on both disks?

    - when installed, and configured, do i use the disks as any other non raid disk? (create directories, copy files, remote access, etc)

    - any suggestions or advice on how can i implement this successfully?

    THANKS!

to implement it, go to the admin tools area and then to disk storage and set it up there

http://www.techimo.com/articles/index.pl?photo=149 along the lines of this.

    - when installed it will be seen as one 500gig disk -- will function as raid1 though -- and yes, you treat it just like any other disk

Yes, you need the same partitions on boths disks

yes both partitions will just show up once and the can be used as a regular disk.

basiclly, just insert both disks in the server, and create on one disk (probably pri master) the 2 partitions you need. These will probably appear as a c and d drive.

After the complete install go to you management console and add the 'Disk Management' snap in. Here both drives should show up.

Now convert both drives to a dynamic drive (right-click => convert to dynamic) and follow the instructions. after this is done for both hd's you can go and add a mirror for the partitions you want to mirror (right click => add mirror) and follow the instructions.

and that's it, its easy as this on win.
