How vital is RAM cooling on a 7800 GT?

I was just installing a maze 4 GPU block on my 7800 GT along with some BGA ramsinks. Finding that 2 of the ramsinks needed shortening to allow space for the tubing. While filing the ram sinks down I slipped and covered one of the ram sinks' adhesive pads in copper filings rendering it pretty much useless.

Does a 7800 GT /need/ RAM cooling? Or will I get away with running it with 2 of the heatsinks missing until I can get hold of some more?

    Quick reply would be appreciated.

It will run OK without, but they will get very hot and I'd advise clocking them down, especially if you start to experience artifacts. You could get away without two of them, but I'd try to procure some replacements ASAP.

hmm, what sort of case cooling have you got? ie, is it good? if you can put a 'ghetto' fan facing onto the memory on the card that should do it i reckon

I phoned a local computer repair/building place. They have some thermal adehsive. Will this be ok for holding the sinks on to the ram?

Ive got to be there before 6 though.

ASTE will make the things damn near impossible to remove, so if you plan on never having to take them off again, i'd look for some other sort of solution

So annoyed. Im going to have to buy a set of eight ram sinks to replace one and then have seven that are useless without the eighth.

Guess im without a PC for 48 hours then :wallbash:

    Thanks for your input guys.

Just hurry it up and buy something like ramsinks; you never know, they can probably come in handy for something else.

Bought one of those pieces of thermal tape. Should come on thursday, which is the same time as the ramsinks would have arrived but about £9 cheaper.

Ill have to alternate from my mums PC to my dads PC until then.

Yeah, that block is messy, I like the look of my maze 4.
