I am thinking of building a new PC soon with a Core 2 6750 CPU and would like to take advantage of its overclocking capabilities. What kind of DDR2 would i need to get a decent overclock? Can I used a decent set of PC2-6400 such as the OCZ Reaper memory, or will I need something with faster capabilities like PC2-8500? Also I was thinking of getting a 650i SLI based motherboard simply because I like the option of adding a second SLI card later, but would I be better off with a P35 chipset for overclocking?

well chap there is a great deal on intel Q6600 quad cores going for £160, and they clock very well!

as for a motherboard most P35 boards are fantastic overclockers, but as games are more graphics card depenant, i would say get a 650i motherboard and add a 8800GTS and what every you have.

PC2-6400 is good enough for overclocking every coreduo chip. only 8500+ and higher ram is for the extreme overclockers.

Get some PC2-6400 G.Skill stuff. CAS 4 for the best so you can losen the timing and clock it more. I've never found RAM that clocks better than either Mushkin or G.Skill.

    Check out this list: http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/

Anything that only offers chips that have green color on their name should provide good overclocking potential.

The PC2-5300 Crucial Ballistix also clocks to those speeds.

All Ballistix has the same chips in them, so the 800 should get up to 1066 speeds easily. I managed to get to almost 1000(960 I think) on mine still at 4-4-4-12 timings, so they are high quality. However, any Micron D9GMH should get those speeds.

I know someone who got theirs up to 1200Mhz which was pretty amazing.

Almost all ram at 1066Mhz and higher is Micron D9GMH or D9GKX, Team Group's Xtreem 1200Mhz ram is Micron D9GKX and OCZ Flex XLC 1150Mhz is Micron D9GMH. Handpicked D9GMH also goes into Corsair's highest speed Dominators, 1250Mhz.
