Had 4GB RAM installed, just increased this to 6GB, however its saying my available RAM is only 3.25GB and my windows rating hasnt budged from 7.3 which is where it was had prior to installing the additional 2GB? Is this correct or do I need to do something as I wanted the additional RAM for usage?

Unfortunately 32 bit Windows will only recognise 3.25Gb of ram. If you want to take full advantage of your 6Gb you will need to install 64 bit Windows.

Yea just googled, it thanks lol, on the road to 64 bit OS then lol. If there is any bonus the new RAM has a heatsink i guess.

Wait, you were using a 32-bit OS, licking down your CPU abilities into 32-bit mode.... What were you thinking? Anyway, at least now it will be fixed.

Also don't forget, as you'll re-install your OS, that in the BIOS, to set your SATA Controller mode, from IDE (or also called: Compatibility/Legacy) to AHCI to get the full performance of your HDD. You want to use IDE mode on XP and older OS, and AHCI on Vista and upward.

Just remember that you cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit OS, it has to be a clean install.

meaning it can only be done if I get a new HDD from which I can boot from?

No not quite, just means you can’t go the "up-grade" route.
So you would need to install the OS from scratch and then re-install all you old programs /games etc..

Although as long as you don’t format the dive all your old files and folders will be kept (although I would back-up any important stuff just in case).

Or just wipe everything from your current HDD and then install

    Sound advice !
Its amazing how much effort people will put into gaining an extra 1fps, when a clean install could get 10 x the performance boost, for no cost at all :)
