Has there been a run of bad ram from Samsung lately? I ask because when I upgraded to my Abit NF7 I bought 256mb of PC2700 Samsung Ram and it would post but refuse to allow me to install windoze. I borrowed a friend's ram and was able to complete the install. I then tried both sticks and the machine ran fine. I thought it was just some sort of new motherboard hickup so I tried just the Samsung. No go. The machine would boot up but would spontaneously restart or even shut down. Uptime was counted in minutes. Then I went and got another 256mb of Crucial ram and paired them up. Now the machine runs but gives me windows errors like "WinMgr has generated errors" Which interupts any programs I'm running. Does anyone know what is going on? I have tried the Samsung ram in each ram slot with the same results. Now even with only the Crucial ram I get windows errors. Thanks in advance for any advice or input.
Does anyone think that a fresh install of windows will take care of teh problem, because that is about the only thing that we can think of that we have left to try. But, seeing as though this was a fresh install, is that the problem. Neither of us really was any idea of what the winmgr is or what it is faulting at. So, let us know what ya think.
Really guys. I have no idea what the problem could be. Is there some fault I have never heard of with the Abit Nf7? Is it my Samsung RAM? Do I need to wipe the drive and start a fresh install of Windows? btw I also tried Redhat 7.1 and it refused to install as well.
I finally got a friend to try the Samsung ram in another board. It worked just fine. He was happy to be running 640mb of ram for our last LAN. I did a fresh install of windows 2k pro and it doesn't seem to be giving me the windows errors but it will crash or reboot in the middle of a game. It's very annoying. I'm hoping to god it isn't a problem with my mobo. It's a brand new Abit NF7. Has anyone heard of reliability issues with this mobo? The only other thing I can think of is my dodgy proc. I got it from a friend who thought he had burnt it out. I guess this is just an excuse to upgrade the processor as well.
I'm fairly sure it's your mobo...can't think of anything else that would cause this, apart from maybe your PSU.
