I was just nit picking, the engine should be in the middle of the car driving the rear wheels. Although it is interesting that the inlet manifold is on the rear side of the engine.

there could be a problem of that heavy engine so far forward that she will be nose heavy and cause understeer, but no car is perfect for every situation.

cool log, keeps eyes open for updates!

    cheers dude

no worries J, im aware a mid engined car would give me better handling and that the rear wheels is the preffered method of drive to save the wheels that are steering from having to power you aswell, however i just love mk1 polos and golfs, so would do anything to them, if i could weld and was a bit braver i would consider trying out something rear wheel drive and mental but im still just a novice when it comes to cars, so this is a car i love and even though i dont know that much its interesting just getting stuck in and having a go

ive mainly driven dubs, all of the ones ive had have had the inlet manifolds on the rear of the engine, the polos&lupos have the exhuast manifolds on the front of the block and the golfs tend to have them on the rear, the mk1 golf gti was pre cross flow for inlet and exhaust both on the rear, the mk2 16v models had the inlet on the front and exhaust on the rear.

indeed im not after a track warrior, just an old skool polo with a new skool touch, the powers not going to be immense but more than enough for the chassis and weight, and i never fully use any cars potential especially on teh open road so understeer wont be too much of a problem :)

got some ear defenders today so i wont go deaf later, my ears have been ringing for the last two days

And hoppys mini adventure collecting my new car, danke dude

    [quote name='HoppyGTi' post='1130312' date='Tuesday 19th August 2008 - 9:56pm']Right, the task was simple..........go to a local town 25 miles away, collect a car & drive it home................How hard could it be?????

The ride Mk1 Polo, T reg with 895cc's of fury under the bonnet, full MOT & Tax.

I was on time to collect the motor, made another Dub friend as we discussed the details of the deal, handed over some dollar for the car & drove away.

I added £10 worth of Shell's finest petroleum distilate and ..............................................

This is where it all went wrong.

Seems as though the old girl wanted to suck up it's own faecal matter through the fuel line, causing much jumpyness & lack of power.

After getting one tow from a friendly MK2 Golf Driver (with a full leather interior I add) and being towed to a garage I though every thing was fine.

But another 2 miles on & things were serious. The lack of power & sudden engine dying made it impossible to be safe on the road without some one pile driving me up the ass  So i took the decision it was too dangerous to continue, so pulled on over.

    So it was down to this;

(Check out the AA man's face  )

Whilst broken down, a friendly group of passing aircooled people stopped to offer a hand, which was nice. The result of this little meeting has found me another 3 local friends & another local meet!!!!

THIS IS WHY I LOVE DUBS!!!!!

Anyways. Journey should have taken about 40 mins, in the end too me 2.75 hours!!!

    Oh well..................still smiling

    Finally at home!!!

arun popped round and we got the cable shifter and the exhaust fitted, also flatted the por15 on the rear panel ready for primer.

need to remember to take over some brushes, masking tape and newspaper tomorrow!

the exhaust fits ok and the downpipe will only need a short pipe to connect the system up so might just get another flexi section and make a bracket up for a hanger

Need to work out this clutch mechanism out so i can start getting the pedal box together,

not even sure where it attaches on the gearbox, or does it fit to a clutch reservoir or something.

need a polo drivers side engine mount too

    looks like fun...
personally, right after i buy myself a bike, i want to buy myself an old (60s) muscle car and rip it apart, rebuild and get it up to speed... preferably an old charger/impala/mustang... but they're hard to get...

yesterday we went down t hoppys go to pick up the wee polo, armed with some spare leads, a new fuel filter and some odd tools we were all set.

got there and the old fuel filter was pure jank man so whipped that off and the rubber gasket that sits inbetween the airbox and the carb was slightly perished so we just bodged it back in place as best as we could.

the wee beasty fired up after that, took it for a wee spin adn bar a knocking from a cv joint all was absolutely sweet. couldnt help but do my first bit of modding and ripped all the badges off the front.

so off we went daaan to la pub, got there 5 mins before the uber food deal was ending, score XD

got back to manchester safe and sound, so today i swapped over the wheels for the lorbers and changed teh driveshaft while i was at it for a spare i had, the outer cv boot on the passenger side has split which caused the knocking

pikey'd earth strap, on the job list to sort out, the jump lead is connected to the battery earth

woke up well late today and couldnt really be arsed but after tommy made me a killer steak sammich i was ready to roll

painted the hood satin black, and underside with por15

painted the front panel in por15 and decided to poke at some holes... bad idea!

    holy moly

    gearbox mount

    or this way

and there are two types of clutch operations for the lupo engines i assume, cable and hydraulic.

    is this setup the cable
    [IMG]

    and this the hydraulic?

(which connects to another cylinder operated by the clutch pedal
if so ill stick with the cable as it minimises the amount of plumbing, pedal box and bulkhead modifications, it just means i cant use the regular lupo gearbox mount in conjunction with this one unless i get one off a 1.4s that fits differently to the gti one it seems (after examining the one on charlies to the mounts i got with this engine)
