Hey, I'm experiencing a problem with my comp when im playing a game. After 30 mins - 2 hours of play my comp will randomly freeze although i can still hear any music I'm playing in the background and still talk to people if I'm on skype, the mouse and game just completely freeze. I cant alt-tab out or anything, the only option is to turn off the whole thing and restart. Temperatures are not a problem as I've run a few games in windowed mode and had my temp gadgets visible. It will always freeze on about 59C for both the CPU and GPU.

I'm considering reinstalling windows but if anyine has any suggestions before i have to resort to that it would be appreciated. :D

    My specs are:
    Alienware M15x (Laptop)
    Intel core i7 720 @ 1.6GHz
    3GB RAM
    Nvidia GTX 260
    Windows 7 64 Bit

Although not specifically helpful, i know from experience this type of thing can be cause by loads of issues.

I don't really do much PC gaming these days as i can't afford the hardware but back when i was doing a lot of online comps / ladders i ended up not playing competitive for a while as i has the same crashing issues. I knew at the time i wasn't temps as the watercooled setup i had ran at low 40c on load...

anyway long story short turned out to be a combination of directX needing reinstalling and the nvidia drivers i we're using. Might be worth playing wit drivers / giving directX a repair or reinstall.

As the music keeps playing in the background, I'd say it is the drivers. Reinstall them, but if all else fails a Windows reinstall will only take up a few hours :waah:
