this started happeneing a few days ago
when windows is starting up, it loads a few things (MBM, LCDC, ultramon) and then just stops for 2-3 mins
sits there and does nothing, no disk access, no cpu usage, nothing

then it loads everything else up
ive looked in startup and there is nothing there that shouldt be there

    running winXP Pro SP1

today when i started up it actually locked up where it normally pauses, had to restart

any ideas as to whats happening/how to fix it?

edit: it started happening a week or so ago but i re-formatted and then it didnt happen for a while, and has now started again

If you haven't installed any hotfixes, perhaps you should install some? Usually stuff like that has a fix...

Have you got a network set up? Or does it have a network interface built in to the mobo? It could be setup to go look for a network address via dhcp. If you have and it is, try and set it to a static ip, something like 192.168.0.1

ok... the new rigs at work were doing this... tracked it down to a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0.. (yes i know... im on it at the end of the week). changed a few IPs and set the subnet to 255.255.0.0 and all of a sudden its WAY faster... so set urself to static concurent IPs, and subnet to 255.255.255.0 and it should be swift again. i think.

    problem solved
the subnet mask was set to 255.255.255.0, so i changed it to 255.255.0.0 and it works a treat
crazy what kinds of things can cause problems

although the pc did lock up again on startup, but i wont worry bout that until it starts happening more often :D
