This is a bit of a strange one, I switched my main comp on this morning, everything was fine and i was using it until an hour ago because i was nipping out so shut it down.

Ive just got back and switched it on and it gets all the way to the win7 bluey-green loading screen, then as it moves from that to the desktop where i get nothing, just a black screen, i do get the windows chimes though.

What makes it even stranger is if i hold ctrl-alt-del, it brings up the win7 option menu perfectly fine, but even if i try and run taskmanager i get taken back to my 'black' desktop. Ive had a random clicking session with the mouse and managed to get a music file to play, so it has booted into windows, ive just got no display.

Ive ruled out the monitor, as it still displays everything else and hooked up to a different comp its fine. I didnt install or delete anything when i was using it this morning, and the graphics card works fine in the other comp aswell.

Im all out of ideas, has this ever happened to anybody else? I do have backups but im reluctant to do it, because i cant see how it would solve the problem as i dont know how its happened.

Does booting into Safe Mode give the same effect?

Its fixed, but yeah i tried that after i checked the monitor was fine.

I left it switched off all night and just turned it on and was greated with my usual desktop, Ive got no idea what was going on yesterday, or even if its going to play up again.

Ive run all the usual diagnostic stuff and theres no errors anywhere. Its a little odd, maybe it wants to be upgraded and just threw its toys out? :eyebrow:
