Basically sometimes when i press the power button on my system it tries to power on then dies. In order to get it to start I have to pull power cord, hit the power button to drain any power from the system, plug the thing back in and long press the power button.

Any ideas? Motherboard starting to fail?

The 1'st thing I'd do is check all the connections from the PSU to the mobo then check the power switch, next would be the PSU itself before pointing the finger at the mobo.

Try changing the power cord and as bulldogjeff says, check the connections. Also try disconnecting any non essential parts (secondary drives, lights, DVD drive etc) to see if that helps. Although you may have to do a few restarts before you notice any difference.

However, I believe the PSU could possibly be starting to fail. The only reason why I believe that is because it has happened to me in on my family computer about a month before it died. It also happened on my server before Christmas, 6 weeks later - poof.

Its a brand new PSU. If it was going to fail, Id assume it would have the first few days of use. Not a month in. Still there is a chance. Thankfully i did buy the extended 1 year replacement from NewEgg. =D

I do get a beep message. Constant long beep. Award says it means memory failure, but my memory tests perfectly so I'd suspect its a mobo failure or a random short which based on the fact my lights on my case are dead the LED bulbs are causing that error. I dont see 4 dead LED case lights causing this though.

I double checked connections anyways. All good.

If you'd given us this info before it would have helped. Make sure the ram is in the slots correctly try it in different slots and then try booting on 1 stick and swap the sticks around and try booting.
What I would also do is disconnect all the dead lights, fans etc.

well i received my new case panel from NZXT. So there is nothing dead. PSU runs great in friend's desktop, no beep code at all.

I still have long beep. System boot failure has become a very random occurrence. I really want to say its my power button as I remembered when putting in my new PSU the plastic holders gave way and the button was jammed in. I popped it back out but i wonder if the contact is going bad...

Seems very wierd... if it was a problem with the PSU or wiring I would imagine it wouldn't work at all - not just choose when it does. I'd say it was more faulty hardware... is there another power switch you can try? Also, is the PC plugged into a surge plug? They can be quite annoying sometimes... my old PC used to randomly lose power occasionally because the surge plug was crap.
