Only suggestion I would make is to have round holes for the two round connectors sticking out the side ( one is audio, not sure what the yellow one is off-hand ), and maybe some sort of logo or motif ( LED illuminated perhaps if possible- everything looks better with LEDs ).
The yellow one is component or composite video I can't remember which. I am after one of these when they come out too. My comment, which is not a criticism, merely an opinion would be to make the square "holes" for the video and audio into circular holes that are more flush with the jacks. EDIT: I would also add another layer of acrylic to the inside of the layer with the ethernet and usb ports. This would make no difference to the USB ports but would plug the gap between the cat5 port and the case, preventing dust etc and IMO leading to a more professional finish. Cracking job though so far, I'm toying with what to do with one myself, though at the minute I'm think wood. They are not taking pre orders buddy, sorry. You're just going to have quick with your clicking fingers and debit/credit card as I can see these selling faster than hot cakes.
Just been reading the article on the front page, another Ras-Pi case in development here too, posted it on the XBMC forum's Pi thread at the weekend. Im cheating though, bought a casing from Maplin and then adding some basic mods to pimp it out a bit. Case only costs £4.29 which is a bargain, was originally going to dremel the connector holes, but seeing as theres tons of room in there i figured i'd try and pop in a couple of LEDs, probably quadrupling the power consumption Will be attempting to do a more accurate Raspberry logo (closer to the one in the pic) on the lid, for now the above gives a pretty good idea.
Thats nice! Everyone seems to be having awesome ideas which is brilliant! I'll change the holes when I get back into work tomorrow (Y) Thanks guys Also, I was worried about the gap on the ethernet, so I mays aswell plug it up with some more plastic ^.^ Thanks guys!
That looks amazingly good. I'm building myself a HTPC soon and I can't decide, should I wait for the Rasberry Pi or go for a regular Fusion platform? The Fusion is hell of a lot stronger, but therefor it costs as much as a couple of Rasberry Pi's. I'll let the future decide! :3 Also, would you mind sharing the case? A link? Thanks!
I do like the fact that the Pi has a "legacy" RCA TV output. I still have a CRT TV and it is a pain in the arsh to find a computer having that kind of output. This is cheap, this is nice and it will find it's place side bu side with a amplifier module inside a nice hifi style case.
Another update ^.^ Edit: Also, I've had the idea of, that how Apple have the Apple logo on the top of there stuff..Yeah..XD..I might steal that idea and stick the "Pi" Symbol on the top...Just thinking about how to do this, and I like the look on how L3p laser etched some writing into his case window....How does that sound?..
Sounds good, and IMO those changes make a big difference to the case. I'd be tempted to layer the top of the case the same as the base. Though I wonder if this would make it look like a liquorice allsort
What about making the sides or one side with clear plexiglass? Almost like a window? Or making the walls white but all top and bottom layers black or sides black tops and bottoms white. I like it though it's looking good
I was thinking a Window...But then thought, if I make the "Pi" logo on the top, I can change that to clear plexiglass couldn't I? Yeah, it might take some work and a long time, but it'll be worth it ^.^
I'd say, if you do plexi for the ras logo on top, do it in translucent green and red plexi... I think it would look better, and you'd still retain a window of sorts
Yeah, thats how im planning on doing my lid, as i already have some 2mm A4 sheets, in Red, Chrome, Black & Clear. So it'll only cost me about £8 incl P&P to get some green in. Did contemplate using the chrome instead of green but it wouldnt be the same. Im hoping nearer the time theres some info on here for wiring up some LEDs cos i wouldnt have a clue. Not sure where i'd draw the power from either, for that matter. I guess the good thing about the R-Pi is the fact that its so cheap and small, its an affordable project in many regards, and im sure a few ppl will come up with similar ideas and solutions.
I am toying with the idea of a boxee style box. A large (compared to the Pi) cube with a corner cut off that it stands on, then using a NIC short panel mount to the rear of the case with the power input and a USB hub to the rear face. That just leaves the HDMI and audio to sort out. The audio will have to be a similar thing to the NIC ie an extension or panel mount. My sketch up skills are severely lacking, but I think you get the idea I am going for...
I'd like to see one modded into an old hollowed out book... /thread jack- we need an official thread for brainstorming ideas.
