When I had the blaster virus, about 5 minutes after I booted, I could no longer drag icons around or click on links in Internet explorer.

Yesterday I took the fairly drastic step of wiping IE6 from my drive (IEradicator  ). After a bit of tidying up I tried to go back online and hit problems from a very long connection time, loads of sites I couldn't access, couldn't get mail, generally slow.

So wasted a load of time checking everything possible, including re-installing IE.

Popped over to ADSLGuide, up/download speeds were fine. Glanced in the Pipex forum, exact same symptoms affecting many other users in my part of the world. :duh:

Moral of the story is, check with the newsgroup or forum for your ISP, it's not always your fault. :sigh:

Coincidences happen all the time in Sod's World.

In order to remove the blaster virus, you first need to patch the exploit in widows. Microsoft has patches on their site.

Once the exploit is patched, you can use an anti-virus scanner to detect and remove the infected files. Or you can use a free online virus scan.

Then that should take care of it.

Just thought I'd post a link that will take care of this virus (and 43 others, including varients). I have actually still had to fix computers with the blaster worm, and some varients.

McAfee Stinger Download and instructions page

I have found that tool most helpful.

Yeah Stinger is a wonderful tool. And it runs off a cd just fine as well.
