Hey - I love the pictures. Can I just ask what kit you were using to take them? (And what settings :) - Been trying to take some pics of birds my self but none are as amazing as those.

    k.. next question..

is it the lens that makes it so sharp or the body? or a combination of both? (seeing as i so can't afford the 3,000 for the 1D Mk3 but could maybe afford the 100-400L lens to go with my 400D

Overall IQ is a combination of the lens and the body, but for the most part the lens has the heavier hand in the matter. Where you see body IQ is in large prints and during processing (some bodies need heavier file processing--i.e. more sharpening). Without going too far in depth there are several factors that effect a bodies resolving power but the big three are pixels (including number, density and quality), the AA filter and the image processor. Long story short, you should be able to get similar results with your 400D. It's more important how the body performs when it comes to everything else--specifically ISO and AF performance.

Ah cool :) so deffo worth getting a good set of lenses before getting a great body? (need a decent macro lens (looking at the Canon one) and a decent zoom (again, the 100-400 canon looks great)
