    Recomend a Java IDE please.

I'm currently using Eclipse, but I'm interested in seeing what else is out there. I'm new to java - for whatever that's worth.

A friend of mine loves the IBM ide but he says that it's not cheap.

So - what IDEs do you like and how much do they cost?

IntelliJ IDEA (I've heard good things about this although I've not used it myself)
    Netbeans

Netbeans is pretty good, especially for j2me development.

    I personally use JCreator

They have a freeware version that should be more than adequate enough for a person just starting out.

JCreator doesn't have all the features of BlueJ, but as Acron^ said, BlueJ is huge and hard to work with. JCreator is great, at least until you start working with windows with hundreds of buttons and text fields.

I have netbeans installed, but I haven't used it yet. Does netbeans exist for the Mac? One of the cool things about eclipse is that I can run the same environment on both sides of bootcamp.

Not to be a hater, but who'd want "hundreds of buttons" anyway? Talk about UI design......
