A few years ago before my pc died and i gave up on gaming by getting a lappy for some reason i still cannot answer - i was playing Battlefield 2 as my main FPS but now i have a gaming pc again i would like to get a decent FPS however i have not kept up with the times so unsure what is still good, i dont want to download battlefield 2 to find i am the only person on a server so first question - is that still going strong? Any other recommendations, ideally it needs to be able to be bought via steam and have a active player base, anything that is a bit of a time waster like BF2 with lots of silly vehicles/aircraff to hi-jack to blow things up with would be good as well as team based co-op missions etc.
+1. This should tick you over to Battlefield 3. Check out the Crysis 2 demo as well, it's not as bad as everyone makes out!
Great to see that battlefield is still going strong is bad company a expansion pack of battlefield2 or a standalone game of its own -sorry for the obvious 'why dont you look yourself question' but i am at work at present so "this site is blocked because we dont want you to have fun" security pages at work keeps coming up.
Crysis? It seems odd, but Crysis has more vehicles than you can fire a Gauss rifle at, and 'Crazy but Cool (TM)' weapons. Oh, and it has decent graphics
ARMA II is a good one for pissing about in vehicles. Don't expect to just be able to jump into it though.
Just stuck in a order for Bad company 2 £12.85 from thehut.com these guys underprice play.com and alot of e-tailers on alot of things including my razer carcharias i bought the other day.
don't forget to join the CPC server http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=199831 Crysis 1 power struggle mode is also pretty Battlefield-conquest-like.
To answer the OPs question: Yes BF2 is still on the go, and it's not too hard to find busy servers. Bad company 2 is not an expansion to BF2, it's a standalone game and the first battlefield game to be released on pc and consoles. (Modern Combat wasn't BF2 before anyone jumps in) Bad company 2 is alot smaller and more frantic than BF2 and lacks jets and i hate to be the person to break this to you but you can't go prone either! Ludacris as this may sound, it's still good fun and had a different dynamic to BF2. Rush mode is where the action is and suits the game beautifully.
I can gurantee you'll love it on our Server, also try the Ziip server, it runs on hardcore mode but is a blast..
Guys do you play on any specific server for bad company? had it for a while completed single player but have not really went online other than to play solo.
If you want to try out hardcore mode for BC2, come join ZiiP, you'll find the details via the forum in my sig, or just search for "ZiiP" in the server browser on the BC2 main menu. Some prefer Normal, some prefer Hardcore. Few regulars from Bit-Tech join us, so it's good to have choices
