My house mate needs a printer/scanner.
I've not owned one or know anything about them..

    Needs if possible:

    • Pretty much only needs to print black & white. Colour as an option but only as an extra.
    • Needs to easily enlarge/reduce size via scanner
    • Wireless if possible
    • Cheap enough to refill

Price range is approx £70 posted or if you know any deals at argos/currys/pc world....

    Cheers guys

Really you want to get a ink pisser?

Get a £50 Laser printer (you save massive amount of money on ink/toner.)
    HP, Brother ect.

Get the scanner separate and maybe wait a bit as cheap scanners are well cheep.
    HP Scanjet-G2410

    Totally agree.
You can get a nice scanner relatively cheap, however finding a good combo unit is going to be EXPENSIVE and you will never get your moneys worth out of it in a home. They never seem to attach a good printer to them unless you really spend the money on them.

I'm not sure I would do wireless though, that could raise the cost too high. It can also make them a hassle to install and troubleshoot, particularly scanners. I fight every time I have to install one in an office, especially if there are two systems sharing it (even worse if it's an HP).

Unless you use color quite often, it's cheaper just to pay a printing place to do them, which is what I do. I have a 20 year old HP b&w laser that just won't die (800,000 prints and counting).
