As recent visitors to the life ruin thread will attest... Natwest can get in the ****ing sea after continuously dicking me around over what should've been a straightforward BACS...

So... I need a new bank...

Anone have any recommendations/ones to avoid? Other than TSB who can also get in the ****ing sea.

Oh and no app-only ones like Starling, cos no smartphone...

My main account has been with Nationwide since forever and I've never really had any issues with them.

First Direct often gets good reviews. £125 for switching too iirc.

'switching' means moving direct debits [of which i have none] and/or having £1000-ish amonth go through the account [lol, i wish...]

I've been with Lloyds since I was about 10, no real complaints.

Ah ha. I should have known there were rules behind the "we'll throw cash at you" headline.

Another thumbs up for Nationwide. Also, recently opened and account online with Starling Bank which as been great. Apply online, super fast updates on eth phone app. I paid in at the Post Office the other day and my phone beeped to confirm the funds before the slip was out of the printer at the PO counter!! Good for commission use abroad too.

First Direct actually doesn't require direct debits active. And while it has a £1000 incoming cashflow qualifier, it's £1000 cumulatively over three months if that helps.

Personally I have Santander 123 Lite for my bills account because I get three times the cashback than the fee costs on my rent and bills and everything, and a First Direct account right now. I change the second account now and then depending who has the switching bonus ongoing basically.

I was with Natwest from about age 13(?) until a litany of errors with my student account at uni. Transferred to Lloyd's in 2006(ish) and haven't had an issue since.

Not Barclays. Many problems with that bunch of chumps back in the day.

Although I was with Lloyds and never had a problem over about a decade.

Tbh, I think everyone I know has complained about every bank at some point or other..

Because we're all still paying for their mistakes and bailouts.

True but there's the odd grumbling and then there's ****ing up spectacularly [tsb] or frequently [natwest/rbs]

Lloyds are fine until there is a problem, then it's a big f'in problem. I've never banked with nationwide, but I did work for them and they bend over backwards for their members (you get told off for referring to them as customers). They win the which customer survey award just about every year too.

Sounds like natwest or anyone tbf... everything goes well until there's a problem and/or you need to speak to someone...

Looks like nationwide are the front-runners...

I guess banks are like ISP's - everyone has a horror story.
