I think i am going to buy or rather have bought for me a half decent chair as I spend a fair bit of time in a day on it. The current one from Staples was okay when new but pretty rubbish now. Been looking at a Steelcase Leap v2 from here https://www.2ndhnd.com/search?q=steelcase+leap+v2 Anyone bought from them and any other recommendations for a chair? I think my budget will have to around the £300 mark hence the second hand market.
I picked up a Humanscale Freedom recently, very comfy, plenty of recline, keeps you supported however far back you lean. Chap on ebay sells them refurbished for under £200, stock will pop up and disappear depending on availability. Downside is it lacks all the 'normal' adjustments leaving only 'set it once' adjustments: seat height, headrest height, seat slide (forward/back), and back height; along with armrest lift/lower. If you have everything else set up properly (proper desk height, proper monitor height, proper keyboard and mouse placement) then it's very comfortable and requires no fiddling. If you don't have everything else set up properly, you cannot compensate with the chair. Desk height is the big problem for most, very few desks have a height adjustment and far too many are set way too high for proper ergonomics.
Think I need to have the ability to adjust as I have back issues that sometime mean I need to alter back support. Edit: Just looked at a video and I am having a change of mind here. Any chance of a link to the Ebay seller. A bit weird I know but I really do not like mesh.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Humanscal...586170?hash=item33d1c38e3a:g:H2UAAOSwXXxZU9qR I paid £240 for mine but it was reupholstered in my choice of fabric/colour before it was sent. So it was basically brand new. Edit. DO NOT get the one without the headrest. They really suck apparently. You need your head supported if you are lazing back in it to watch videos etc.

I paid £25 and it came on a pallet. ED - Mine had the armrests etc but I broke the whole mech by lifting myself into the chair to sit hippy lol. I had to bind up the back with paracord to keep the arms up. Mine also has the gel armrests, super squishy Since breaking the arms (and then fixing them) I have stopped sitting like a ****. I now sit up properly which this chair has made me do. It's probably the first chair I have ever sat in properly.
My Girlfriend has a Humanscale Liberty and loves it, but I find it uncomfortable. I have a Herman Miller embody that I think is amazing but my girlfriend isn't so keen on. Both are very good chairs but feel completely different, as such i'd suggest you really need to try out the chair you buy or at least make sure it is cheap and easy to return if you don't get on with it.
Appreciate where you are coming from with your try before you buy advice but I think with the likes of chairs it really does not hold. I bought my last chair from local Staples as I could try the chairs before selecting one. Unfortunately chairs change as you use them and what might have felt comfortable in the beginning might not a year down the line. I note that the Humanscale Liberty is mesh which I am not keen on. As for the Herman Miller Embody I am unlikely to find one within my budget.
with a good chair the dynamics do not change at all. With cheap crap chairs the arse foam goes, the arm foam goes etc etc. With a real chair (like a Miller etc) nothing changes. My Humanscale still feels exactly the same as the first time I sat in it. Then again, specced as it is it was a £1200 chair RRP and it shows. Seriously Glen, wait until you get your arse into a real chair. It will make sense then. My last two chairs have been a Herman Miller Sayl and this Humanscale and I will never, ever, buy another cheap chair again.
Phoned a guy on Ebay enquiring after the delivery costs for the Freedom and Edinburgh is too far seemingly.
