I have two xbox 360 controllers bought 18 months ago from ebay (seller in HK). I suspect the controllers were not an original product. After serving me for that long both have failed One controller met its death due to bended wires, and I did open it only remembered that I don't have a soldering kit to fix it. A new kit here in UK about half to three quarters the price of a new xbox 360 controller. I don't have a shed to work out and since room space is cramped I just decided to give up on it. The second controller just decided to stop functioning on my wife's laptop and getting this message: I did manage to use it on my desktop for some time until I got that same message as well. Tried all usb ports and it still did not work. I got my wife a wildfire controller (at Argos) which looks like an xbox rip-off but works suprisingly well (aside from slightly harder buttons) and replaces all the xbox keys natively. It also automatically configures as a second controller when the first xbox controller is plugged in first. My questions are: 1. Is there a way to ressurect any controllers and is it worth trying it? 2. Is it common for xbox 360 wired controllers to fail on you? I am willing to give the benefit of doubt since the controllers did come in the original packaging and the white paint job on it does not seem like its the original product. 3. Recommend me a wired force feedback controller for the PC. I only play PC games mainly Street Fighter/Blazblue, Devilmaycry 4 and racing games. I have my Logitech DFGT for that. Technically I can use the gamepad controls present on the DFGT but its heavy and not that comfortable. I'm limiting my purchase to proper online e-tailers (amazon play etc) and not on ebay this time around.
I'd get another Xbox 360 controller for the sheer ease of usage alone. due to GfWL and Microsoft support many games have presets for the controler. Other brands might not be able to use them. Before I got my xbox controller I used PS2 controllers, and frankly the driver support was just crap for some games. Ther ealways were some little issues, in DMC4 the y-axis on the right analoge stick wouldn't work for example. You might get the same issues with other controllers. However the PS2 controllers weren't exactly low quality and worked fine with games that had no 360 presets. I know this won't help you but some friends have been using their wired pads for years with their xbox now, and apart from a lot of scratches they are fine. You might just have been unlucky or been scammed. Whatever MS did to the xbox, on the controllers they did a very good job. You could try the Razer Onza I guess, it's a copied/improved xbox controller that should work right out of the box just as the MS one does. Haven't tried one yet, might bee good, might be just another razer gimmick.
+1 for the 360 controller. Mine is several years old and has been abused, but sounds like you're a more serious abuser! Buy one from a reputed seller with a warranty.
Nope. I don't play games that often. With my wife, we end up playing Battle City and more NES games. I only play games when totally bored or when friends come over. I think its less than 100 times since I bought the controller. I end up playing more with the racing wheel than with the controller. This Razer Onza controller does not seem to be out yet. I really like the D-Pad. I heard MS had a new controller with a changable D-Pad. Not sure if its on sale or compatible with my system. The D-pad on the 360 is bad, really bad for playing NES games
Genuine 360 controllers are awesome. I'm still using the one that came with my original non-hdmi 20 gig console. It's oooold. Love the quality, love the comfort, though the d-pad could be better.
Another +1 for the 360 USB controller. Works well for a lot of games these days, especially console ports
Xbox 360 controller it is then. Hopefully that USB error is not present in the new controller. Amazon has a one year warranty if it does not work right?
Often thought about getting a 360 controller, but my Logitech Wingman is still working like new. May just go and get a 360 one to see if it is any better than the logitech.
Another vote for the 360 controller here. I have used a lot of controllers in my time and MS got this one dead right. I find the PS3 controller a bit small and don't like the 'trigger' buttons (even with extensions). My original white 360 controller is still working (got it at launch) and is what I use on the PC. I only have a couple of issues with the 360 controller; 1. It's too easy to select the wrong thing with the D-Pad. 2. With a well used controller, the shoulder buttons can become a bit too sensitive. How many times have I lobbed a grenade unexpectedly or wasted boost!
I have two 360 pads and they're excellent, but if I needed to replace one I'd take a close look at the Razer Onza.
