Simple as the title, suggest a good plane combat game for the PC (obviously). I read the joystick article and I feel like getting back into flight games, been a long time since I was playing flight sim 95 but I don't feel a flight sim will keep me as entertained these days. So combat it is, preferably with modern graphics as I hope flying will be great with high detail and 1080p. GO!
I always had a love for the original Combat Flight Simulator. CFS3 is a pile of rubbish, but I could easily spend hours playing CFS 1. Coincidently, it was the first game I ever played that I used a joystick for.
Get Combined Operations (Arma2 + Operation Arrowhead), and then get a mod called "Carrier Operations: Duala". You'll get a lot more fun and a lot more value for money than just buying a flight sim. edit- If you want any help let me know. I can post screenshots if you like and help with getting the game up and running. You can get Arma2 for free by the way, so you would just need Operation Arrowhead which is quite cheap. Then there are a million great mods and they are all free.
Wings of Prey is an amazing Sim/Arcade Game. Graphics are really good and the game in general is optimized so crank up those settings
Wings of Prey is a great game. I also like DCS A10C but its quite hard and complex. You can play it in Arcade mode too but it's not that great like that unfortunately, that's why I prefer Arma2. But if you want the most realistic flight sim out there, then DCS is the way to go. Or Wings of Prey for somewhere in between, or Arma2 if you want modern jets and dont mind working with mods. Also there is a game called Rise of Flight which is really popular but I never tried it.
Soooo Wings of Prey it is then. To be honest it sounds just what I am after (good graphics, not to simmy but not silly arcade) I take it this game fits the bill. Well then, anyone recommend a good joystick outside of the two in the bit tech review??

Flight Simulator 10 is quite good but is also quite advanced, and I know it is old, but if you get addons like Real Environment Xtreme Essentials, you can make the game look amazing, and TileProxy will import live satellite data onto the terrain, for an even more realistic experience, just don't get it if you have crappy internet like me :/
+1 for Wings Of Prey. Never heard of it before yesterday but it was an impulse buy on Steam. God I love the summer sale. Wallet hates it though Really good graphics, great fun.
