All being well my system should be up and running in the first week or two of March (assuming I dont break anything...). I've just enough money in my budget for one game to do me til next pay day after! So what should it be? Im a huge FPS fan, but also love my RPG's. As mentioned in another of my threads I'm moving from an Xbox 360, so I want something to wow me, and show me that all this money is being well spent! So any recommendations......?
Mortal Online Will wow you as to a example of potential games may hold Crysis will still wow you for graphics i hear Mass effect will wow you for storyline (i do not like the space theme however) Eve online will wow you for Size of a Game
And if you can't get that to run due to Win 7 32 bit/64 bit compatability issues (I can't), then: Crysis Warhead Which is excellent.
Armed Assault 2. If your system can handle it. Ramp up view distance to max, get in heli, fly to mountain top, get out, marvel at view and start yodeling. Then shoot that soldier miles away with your snipe rifle.
WOW you as an console convert... the games you will like now will not be the same as your tastes grow and dare I say "mature" as you spend more time away from your 'troller. Eve Online is just an amazing feat of engineering. But it's not everyone's cup of tea. However, with a free no-CC trial on the table, you really should try it out. And ignore all the criticisms about early game play not being a patch on end-game. Eve is so big that you will never see those people nor feel like you're missing out on anything. But everynow and again you will catch a glimpse of something epic that will keep you wanting to move forward. I'd personally take Darkfall Online before mortal online, purely because it's been out longer and has a more solid fanbase. RIFT is coming out soon too. This is taking a lot of attention from mainstream MMO players. Probably well suited to a recent recruit to the world of mouse and keyboard, though technically nothing new wrt MMOs, it's solid and technically competent. Singleplayer games like Civ5 are good if you like RTS. For FPS you could try Team Fortress 2 if you haven't already seen that on a console. Old school but great fun; easy to pick up, but hard to master. I'm playing Minecraft at the moment. It's probably too early to expose someone who's come in from the cold as to what that's about. It divides the PC community firmly as it is, but who knows. If nothing else, you'll be wowed that over 1 million people have bought this game of their own free will. Such are the joys of the PC gaming community.
Crysis + Crysis Warhead for singleplayer wow-ness and fun. (search for NanosuitNinja videos on Youtube) /thread
I'd say Grand Theft Auto IV because the jump in graphics quality from console to PC is pretty awesome. Faces are clearer, gameplay is fantastic, view distance is pretty damn good especially when you're flying, and it's still a great game. Plus you should be able to pick it up quite cheaply, which is another benefit of gaming on the PC. In terms of more recent games, have a look at what's on Special Offer on Steam. There's bound to be something there to tickle your fancy.
As you've been playing the 360 until now, you may have missed out on RTS games. Do these appeal? If so, Company Of Heroes and Red Alert 3 are two of my favourites. And Supreme Commander 2 may be reduced (again!) in the Steam Sale that's running all this week.
Just buy the orange box if you don't already own it. Half-Life 2 + EP 1 & EP 2 TF2 Portal £17 from steam
I would say neither of these are very good for someone new to PC gaming. They are both seen as hardcore MMO's as opposed to say WoW or RIFT, they may look good but if you've not been introduced to the MMO scene before they have a fairly steep learning curve. It's actually quite nice to see a new MMO that isn't buggy as hell and actually look quite close to release standard I am constantly telling people to buy this game but I agree that it is a hit or miss with most PC gamers. Personally I would probably recommend something like portal or the half life series. Neither of these games are the best looking nowadays but in terms of gameplay they are amazing. I've been playing a lot of Magika recently, hell of a lot of fun if you can get a multiplayer game going!
