Well my music collection has finally gotten too big to fit on my beloved Iriver H320, so I'm looking around for a new one.
First of all, let me make this clear: I don't want an iPod
Now that's sorted, let me list what I want from it.
Would like it to have a decent battery life.
    Needs to be 30+GB
Would like it to work as a mass storage device (tis useful for transferring files etc)
Maybe a colour screen, I like the screen on my H320.

Now the alternative to buying a new one is to get a new drive for my Iriver. I can get a 30GB one, or I think 40GB ones that will fit into my iriver will be available sometime in the near future.
    Anybody have any suggestions/recommendations?

Yeah, it would be bloated, need lots of plugins to actually play diffrent file types and to make it sound good, and look like ****.

Sansa e270: small, decent screen and playback, bit fiddly to use and has a drag and drop interface! WOO!
Creative Zen: custom software and I had to RMA my old one twice. Generally cheap and decent quality playback though.

There are others but this is all Ive used.

Sansa, that's the name I've been trying to think of each time I see this thread. Havn't got one, but from the reviews I've read the Sansas are great players for a great price, look into them!

IAudio (Cowon) X5 60GB ***! This player has the best sound quality I have ever had on a portable mp3 player and supports quite a lot of formats including flac and ogg. There is almost no white noise, even my Shure e5s which buzz quite a bit using an iriver ihp120 or iPod 5.5. Other than that it has a color screen and does not need any additional software to transfer files. It is built like a rock (aluminum casing) and also has video playback, which is not all too great on the small screen but I don't use that feature anyway.

The cowon looks great, but it is quite expensive. Looks like a more polished version of my Iriver. How is the battery life?
See the problem with the Zune is, I get the feeling I might fill up to 30GB quite quickly, and then I'll be stuck again.
Creative only appear to make 20GB players (or that's all I can find), and the Sansa is far too small.

I have only had my player for around a month and did not measure the battery life span yet, but it is probably somewhere around what iAudiophile.net wrote:

The only downside I have noticed yet is that you are unable to sort your music using ID3 tags (although it is possible to display them). You can, however, install Rockbox to fix that problem, which will unfortunately void your warranty.

Hmm your right it looks rubbish, and we all know WMP is really better.
    :worried:

And FYI "25-Oct-2006: Winamp 5.31 ships with FLAC support"
