I recently deleted some files and emptied my recycling bin and now I realize that I unfortunately need them back! Is there any way that I can go in through DOS or something of the like and retrieve those files??? :wallbash: :sigh:

I used to have some software a while back that did just that. It was called file undeleter and was part of Fix-It Utilities '99 by Mijenix. It would scan the disk for the remnants of deleted files and would find odd bits lying around, some of which were recoverable. You might be able to find something similar.

If they are really important, then the main thing is to not use the machine or write much to disk since it could overwrite the area of the disk where the remains of your file resides. The main problem is that any recovery software will want to install itself onto disk, possibly overwriting the very data you are trying to recover. Hence why running a program from a floppy in DOS is preferable, if you can find one that'll do the job.

If I install a program like that onto another drive would it work? I've got two hard drives (three partitions) and could just put the program onto the other drive if it could possibly present a problem being on the same one.

    Any of these should work:

    Easy Recovery Pro
    Undelete
    Recover4All Pro
    GetDataBack
    Ontrack Data Recovery

Goggle them for downloads, hth :thumb: .
