Not sure how accurate this is as I haven’t checked mine yet but some insurers won’t actually cover you when there’s a red weather warning. Check yours? Happy to be proven wrong.

Edit: I was proven wrong. This was folklore.

I'm not so worried about myself driving as I grew up in the countryside, more that if some other plonker with no snowy condition experience were to slide into me and neither of us are covered.

I heard that today but this was in relation to council vehicles and buses and to be honest I did not see a single council vehicle and only the airport bus ran, which was odd as Edinburgh airport was shut.

The last time we had a lot of snow which was 2010/2011 there was no red alert and main roads were kept clear and buses ran.

It's a myth: so long as you're driving with due care and attention, you're covered.

Total BS. Consider this, if you're out driving already, would you know? If you did, are you supposed to stop at the side of the road and wait in your car, or walk home?

Call your insurer if you're concerned, but it's a pack of lies.

EDIT: Also what he said, with a source as well. You would almost think he's a journalist or something.

Confirmed: I've just had an email from my insurer that says:

I've only just collected my car from where I left it on Wednesday last week. But yes its all false your still covered when there is a red weather warning. Where this silly rumor started I've no idea, probably started by a group of Daily Mail readers.

Excellent I’m glad we can contribute to Snopes with this one. It’s all a pile of tosh.
