My site looks liek this at the moment: www.acrim.co.uk

I was goign for hte clean corperate look, because i didn't know who my clients were, well i've found out that most of my clients are pretty young and into electronics for modding, so...

...I thoughts i'd redesign my site to make it look abit more cool to my target audience, i've got he top bar done, but i think its missing something, possibly above the buttons, opinions if you'd be so kind:

hmmm, persoanlly it ihnk it looks a bit "clean" for a website, i mean, its not bad, im just saying its maybe a little bare, and "round" for a website!

its only my oppionion, but i guess thats what ur going for, so :p i prefer it to have a little more design to it, if you know what i mean. Also i have never been a big fan on top navigation bars! i prefer them down the side because otherwise on high resolutions you get the content being dspread over to much of an area, lots of white space because everything fits onto one line.

I think, to say its an electronics website, maybe a bit of transparent circuitary in the background, that acrimtrech logo thing on the left, fade the electronics bit into a menu down the left hand side.

Hmm, whether you do more or less, a good designer can make it look good.

    Don't abuse bevels/gradients, subtle = good :)

You want to use bevels and gradients so they look good, but the user almost doesn't notice them ^_^

    I'll redesign soon, so:

    Less beveled/smooth.
    More electronics themed.
Address problems with it looking crap at hi-res.

    Am i right?

The new design is definitely much better than the one you have on now.

Agreed, I remember seeing the original for the first time and thinking it didn't look right, it just didn't flow well, no offense though:)

Yeah, i agree with you it was a little bit cheap, but i didn't want to spend time developing a site for a company if it could fail, but its doing okay so i thought a (less neutral) but more target audience specific site was in order.

I used Photoshop <hugs> to develop it, i think bevel and emboss is over used these days so i used inner shadows and glows to create the smooth, rounded metal effect.

I think its more liekly to fail if it has a crappy website! I for one would never consider giving money to people who care so little for their business they cant even be bothered to create a proper site ;)

^because it can do stuff liek that relatively easilly and its got so much more function and power.

You ever looked at 'PhotoShop Elements' its basically the same just with out all the fancy RGB stuff that you prolly wont use any ways.

I agree completely. There seems to be this ever growing notion that because a beginner can put something together without too much hassle, there's no point in paying a professional to do it.

Well, tbh, as a pro I can differentiate between the work of someone's 14yr old nephew who has a cracked copy of weaver and shop and a professional outfit from a 1000yds.

So, for that matter, can customers. They just don't know why ;)
