Well, I downloaded RH9 over night last night, and thought I'd install it this evening. Burnt off the ISOs, chose my packages, and all was going well, until disc 2 failed! Can't read a package, obviously a vital one.
No I didn't do the media test before hand, probably should of done, but have never bothered before.

Anyway, it's been my undoing, 'cause I now can't install RH, and I can't get back into Windows either to burn off a new Disc 2 because grub (a text version) has been written to my MBR. I've tried doing an XP repair from bootable CD, but that didn't work.

Anyone know any commands I can use in grub to boot windows, or how I can overwrite it to be able to get into Windows, without installing an older version of Linux, then going to Win, then re-installing new version of Linux (chore!).

    Help! :waah:

Get into teh GRUB console, and type :

    chainloader +1

That is what GRUB uses to boot Windows (well any other OS really) it actually just loads teh otehr bootloader, as when GRUB installs, it just sort of acts like an OS hub, and then boots Linux (which uses it's own sadistic thing) or hands off to NTLDR, etc.

However if that doesn't work, you can pretty much say bye bye.

And make sure you ALWAYS do a media check the first time you use your install CDs.

Make sure your using an FTP client to downlaod the ISOs, and not just IE, as it doesn't download them in binary mode, which buggers up the images.

EDIT: when you say XP repair, do you mean jus tthe automated one, or did you actually go into the recovery console and use the FIXBOOT and FIXMBR utilities ? as teh automated one just moves a couple files and says it failed. It really is completely useless.

    RH 6.2?

How do I install Red Hat Linux 6.2? The Red Hat site documents say that I will get a "boot: " prompt, but instead, it loads the GRUB command line, can someone please tell me how to run the install?
