Aside from having quite a silly name, I must commend Redhat for version 9. It is quite good. While they still use BlueCurve it has been changed a bit, it's a bit nicer to look at. The installation size seems to ahve increased, my current install is a little over 2 gigs, with a max instlal size of 5 It now has proper TrueType fonts, so that looks nice, all around, it hasa warm feel to it, like a big warm hug. It does actually have suport for the Audigy built in, and it does actually work this time, unfortunately, only analogue out works, I can't sem to find any way of getting it to switch to digital out. I don't know if maybe they haven't implemented it or not, I shall have to look around a bit and see. Unfortunately the emu10k1 drivers no longer work in version 9 (at least I couldn't get them functioning, anyone who has is more than welcome to let me know ) but hey, at least it's starting. Overall I have to say a very nice bit of kit. Anyone who wants to upgrade their Redhat or try out Redhat I encourage to grab up 9, it's worth the download Just my two cents on the new release. EDIT: Oh yeah, Mozilla is now the default browser, they're really pushing it now, but that's a good thing and the eMail client is by default Ximian Evolution which also works nicely, has a calendar and other time scedule stuff as well. Also, it seems a little sluggish, but Redhat as always been like that.
Thanks for posting this the day after I downloaded Debian! j/k (I think you mentioned it in your posts the other day actually...) I'm going to install Debian today, decide I don't like it tomorrow, and start downloading RedHat 9 from work. (much faster connection!) Any tips on the RedHat 9 install?
Tips for the install? Yeah. Get ready to wait. It took a little over an hour the first time, and a little under an hour the second time (didn't install as much, went form 3.2 gig install to 2.1 gigs). Yeah I managed to bust it up something fierce already I was mucking about figuring out the sound and managed to really bugger it up badly, easiest way was to just install it again Also I'm sure you'll like Debian, it's a good distro, not like ManRape.
