I'm currantly using windows 2000 ICS (internet connection sharing) and trying to do a similar thing with redhat 8 (cos I figure it will be a much better firewall anyone point me in the direction of a guide?? I've been messing about a bit with it and I think I know what I'm doing but I've searched google and I can't kind anything specific to RH 8.0 Oh I'm using NTL Broadband (well 128Kbps so really quite narrow band) I've seen some guides for that but any help with that front will be greatly recieved...
If you want a linux router/firewall try smoothwall or ipcop, but be warned that it will wipe your hard drive and can not be used for anything else such as a web server.
I want it to run dhcp for my internal network, DNS and all the other fun stuff that comes as part of M$ ICS, as well as being a file server a news client and maybe even a kazza client.... I've got it all running ok on windows at the moment but just really want to try Linux. and I got a whole spare machine to play with so wipeing the HD is not a problem.
Smoothwall/IPCop will do everything you need (DHCP, firewall, proxy/cache, router, ADSL support etc etc etc). It's very easy to install, 10 minutes max and it will run on pretty much anything 486 or above.
Got IPcop running and it's all working fine... after a bit of messing... (my ntl modem didn't like my 3 com 10Mb card ) now jst got to sort the rules etc so everything I want to work does and everything I don't doesn't Thanks for the help!!
