i'm doing a php class at college right now, and in class the whole thing is done in redhat 8, so i figured that for working on stuff for that class i'd get redhat setup on my system here at home. i moved my music from my 10 gig drive, wiped it, and then set about installing redhat. i left my windows drive connected, figuring that there should be no problem, as installations dont usually touch the drives that they're not installing on.

i got everything installed for redhat(except the sound drivers, but i'm working on that) and decided i wanted to go back to windows to check my email and such things like that before i went to bed.

so in the boot loader i chose windows, boots normally, goes through it's normal loading procedures, then, when it gets to where the login screen should come up, it just sits there, and nothing happens.

now, this happened at 2am, and i didnt feel like messing with it anymore, so i went to bed. when i got up thismorning, i decided to try disconnecting the linux drive, but when i tried that, it said "grub hard drive error".

it seems to me that although the setup said that the unselected hard drive would be untouched, it was in fact messed with. anyone got any ideas as to how i can fix this problem?

There was a good tutorial on how to put bootsect.lnx on a floppy, use the win2k recovery cd and do a fixboot and fixmbr, and then put the bootsect.lnx on your C:\ and setup the bootloader so that you could use linux again but I don't have the link for it anymore. If you do a google search for bootsect.lnx you should be able to find the instructions. For some reason neither Grub nor LILO seem to let my Windows partitions co exist without any struggle. If all else fails skip doing the bootsect.lnx part an djust use the 2k recovery console to get back to win2k.
