Well don't copy the pad exactly, and remember most mice won't work on a real wood pad. On the spec sheet I will be using a laser etcher, I won't need paint however as I bought the wood today and tested on a piece, the wood burns to very dark black. That is $45 worth of African Padauk It is a very dense hardwood, it is a deep red that will require no stain. It also sands to a shine so will require minimal top coating. The laser, which can normaly cut through 1/4" of poplar, only cuts about 2mm deep into this wood, it will take a long time to cut all the way though. No, the graphics card in the rendering is a X800 XT PE. The graphics card and motherboard will change later this month.
Well, tbqh, I like some of the ideas that are here... But, some of them don't look like the best ideas. For example ~ The waterblocks don't look like they will provide very good cooling at all, and you'd be better off simply getting premade ones that are tried and tested (I can understand wanting to do it on your own, but once you reach the point of diminished use, form over..creation?) Also, I would try to do something different with the connectors...You did the whole "Re-solder into a mic-jack" thing in your Ammo PC, and tbh, I don't think they fit this project. Maybe something a little more ingenious? To the mousepad: The finish doesn't fit with the rest of the case, and it almost looks retro-modern, compared to the "retro" style of the rest of the case. Plus, if a mouse doesn't track very well on wood 1. Why do they work on wooden desktops fine? and 2. Why are you choosing a design that isn't functional... Some of the designs look...well, like too much. Things like the overall case. It's busy. There's a million different things going on at once, and there isn't really one unified theme...other than "wood and brown" Plus, I dunno...kinda looks like a 1920 steam engine to me, not a nice-looking computer. Is that honestly a design you're going for. Oh, and www.iespell.com mate... EDIT: Edited for less bitchyness
I gotta say Zap, I've like most of you other projects, but this one just doesn't tickle my fancy very much. Know what I mean? It's like, in all you other ones, there was something I had never seen before. Something new and barrier-breaking, but not in this one. Find that extra little something to spice it up, and I'm sure it'll be a winner. Just seems kind of uninspiring at the moment.
WTF?! You think this is too busy. Look at that faceplate. It only has cutouts for what it really needs. It doesnt have logos or company names or even a design cutout. It looks freaking clean. The red LEDs and the wood are going to look awesome together. Very warm. I think the mousepad and the case go well together. Nice job Zap.
What the HELL kind of idea is that? Stop flogging a dead horse - you've had your lime light, now move over and let somebody else innovate, rather than hogging it for as long as you possibly can. I'd be very suprised if you actually got around to finishing this "project."
Weird-Looking.....Things?? = Vent holes Poorly designed, non efficent gpu waterblock = cant even see the paths of the water. Care to tell us how its non efficent? Huge, weird, non efficent reservoir = how could it be more efficent, its just a reservior??? WTF?? = power supply Gold plated attnetion getting radiator = modding is just like any other art form...just an expression of ideas and feelings LCD = to display information...I feel that it might take a little away from the spartain front but thats just me.. You seem to be a touch green there bubba... Theres two types of critisism...constructive and non constructive....Both of you seem to have them mixed up...In order to be constructive dont just say "that sucks" tell him what you thing would make it look better..I agree that all the posts dont need to be ass kissing ones, but there is definatly a balance that will be found...Or some peoples stays will be very short....
Zephyr, you are talking about the innards of the computer. I thought you meant the outside case. Most of those things you pointed out are needed to run the computer. True watercooling is not needed but it makes for a silent pc. To me silent is better than having tornado makers in your comp. MrBadidea, I`d like to see what projects you are working on. If you think you can create something better step up and show it. If I was zap I would never post ideas here again since some people dont have any constructive criticism to say. Instead of bashing and nitpicking over spelling say something that will make it look better. Geez. Edit:Thats funny I was writing this when Haddy posted.
I've given plenty of constructive critisism on these forums. However, I don't appreciate Zap coming in with plans, expecting people to fawn all over him, and then people do. This isn't the first, second, or even third time he's done this. Some of his idea are quite cool. Some of this work is impressive. But for the most part, I don't like his style, and I don't like his methods. I am fully allowed to voice my opinion, and I did. Out of everything I've seen from Zap, 99% of it has been renderings...nothing more. So, tbqf, I'm getting tired off seeing more "look at my new crazy project" threads from him, when we all pretty much well know they aren't going to take place. I certainly have more things to say, but I'll hold my toungue. Personally, threatening bans to people who gave opinions is a bit absurd. Both MrBadidea and I stated what we thought, and until now, neither of us voiced a personal opinion about his mods in general or him. Now I've touched a bit. If the title of this thread were "cool ideas I had for a retro mod", then I certainly wouldn't have commented, or may have given some good responses. However, he was gruff and rude in his first posts, and imho, quite arrogant. OK, so Zap's been around longer than a lot of us. He has a higher post count...whoopidy-doo. He's done a few good mods, but has come back with just the same amount of crap. He threw some parts into a pre-made case, added sound-dampening foam, and called it an HTPC mod, and insisted it be showcased in the Project Logs section of the forums. He created a cool ATi/AMD case. Lots of cool lighting, and some awesome etchings and paintjobs. That was, in fact, the mod that brought me first to Bit. His Ammo-Box PC had some cool features in it. However, I find that his arrogance and his "look at me I'm the pwn" attitude are quite annoying, and somewhat disgraceful to modding. As far as us stepping up a showing what we've done? At least for me, I don't have the time or the money to do as good of a mod as, say, the ATi/AMD PC. I'd burn my hand off with the soldering iron, and throw away hundreds of dollars of LED's. But, I don't go around the forums blowing my own horn, telling everyone how good I am. In fact, I generally stay clear of the modding section, simply because that isn't my area of focus. Why? Because I don't have the creative mind. However, I do think that with the number of unfinished mods he's left lying around, and some of the things he's said/done to members and non-members of Bit, we do have the right to be a bit skeptical... Ban me if you wish, you have that clickable button. However, this was all just my opinion, voiced on a public forum...
Firstly, I have plans, and have had plans for a while, I'm currently gathering information. I don't show crap off though until its finished, and I'm not going to go around throwing pics around of work in progress crap - you've seen one blow hole cut, you've seen them all and the like. Hell I'm unlikely to post it about on the internet, because its a functional mod for myself which may end up looking quite cool, it may be uber crap visual wise, but in the end its about function, not form, and its likely the only way you'll ever get to see it is if you grace the same LAN hall as me. Secondly, you are of course forgetting the windows (another over-abused but once a brilliant idea kind of mod) that Zap has planned for his case; thus making the internal components part of the "mod." Haddy, I hate to point out the fact that I've been around Bit longer than you have; just because I don't post often, doesn't make me an idiot in the field of computers. Zap had a good idea with the microphone style USB connectors in one of his mods, but what else has he done? What else has he innovated? Look at the first few replies to his original post about this mod, and notice the correlation between actual informative posts, and "OMG TEH WINNARS MOD" crap. I have to re-itterate most of what Zephyr is saying; he's making the exact same point that I am!
Well, since sarcasm is the most extreme form of immaturity... I never said it had to be up to my standards. I voiced my opinion. Period. And we never resorted to name-calling, or other forms of playground mockery. We were both rather political, and both of us even complimented Zap. I'm not doubting he's had some good mods...but some of the other actions to outweigh, imo. EDIT: I see you've edited your post...
Maybe some people are little bit more confident of themselves and their work that they like to post it and get peoples thoughts and ideas...Im sure ZapWizard has incorperated suggestions from others before..I dont see the "arrogance" that some see...I see confidence... It may not a total innovation but Ive never seem a computer with a built in detachable mouse pad....or a wood tower that had the specs burned into the wood...maybe their out there and I just missed them... As for being around here longer, which by the way youve been register ~75 days longer than I have, congrats, I have no idea what that has to do with anything. I dont remeber calling you an "idiot in the field of computers", I mean please show me and Ill glad sort out any mis understandings.... Everybody is entitled to their opinions, just like everybody is entitled to be wrong. Basicly my point in the whole matter is, I dont care if you hate his guts and think he is the most arrogant sob you have ever meet. Dont come in, troll, and trash his thread. Like Ive said before theres a difference between constructive and non constructive criticism. If you dont like the way he does things thats fine, give him suggestions on what you think it should be done like or just dont post at all...
Dude, get off the man. Everyone is entitled to give feedback, both positive and negative. And if you feel the need for a debate, please start a thread in the General News & Serious Discussion forum.
RR5, I couldn't agree more. That being said, I hope this turns out to be better than it looks so far... No offense intended to anyone, so please don't jump down my neck.
Confidence has nothing to do with it. I'm confident that my mod will work, that it will be successful, and that it'll do what the hell I want to do. I'm also confident that your daily lives will not end if I fail to show it to you. As for the whole "idiot" part, thats my fault, my tired little brain didn't make sense of your little ramble, before you proceeded to give my post some criticism. As for the project, I've seen countless other mods that follow the same kind of design principle here. It's becoming a checklist of the current modding fads - Windows, Lighting, Wood... hell, the shape of Zap's designs are pretty close to some I've seen before. I'm seeing the same things far too many times. Its getting old, and its getting boring. I'm tired of seeing the same old posts of "OMG TEH PWNIES MOD" and nothing else. I'm starting to think in some cases, the responses to the thread author are nothing more than "Oh look, its that guy that made that awesome case a few months back, this has to be a winner," hitting reply without even bothering to read the autors post. I don't see this project being able to reach a level of which Zap is capable of- as proven by his past work. (No, not the lightsabers... )
This is not feedback. He calls his idea crap and tells him to stop modding. What kinda of bulls*** is that. Then bringing up past projects in which he has no idea why they were never completed is totally irrelavant to this project. He doesn't state how to improve his project or adds anything to make this project better. That is not feedback. This will be me last off topic post.
Woohoo yet another project sparks contriversy over design. I will try to answer stuff in order. -As written the internals on the waterblocks is not final. I want to make my own as I want 100% polished copper, most commercial blocks have a plexi-lid. The Res is not final either, in fact I hope to re-build the pump into a better housing, I hate the plastic housing. -There is no custom connectors, I don't know what you are talking about. -How can the mouse pad not match the case, it's the same shape as the faceplate. Maybe the logo. As I said: Normal mice don't track well on Polished wood, I will be using a MX1000 which works perfectly fine on polished wood. I have already tested it out on my test-piece. -If you think the inside is busy, I agree, but it's is very hard to pack that much into a small space. In either case watch for my next post, the case had to be shrunk by about 16% and was cleaned up. -Don't take the rendering colors as litteral, the Radiator won't be gold, it will be brass. As will the pipe fittings. The waterblocks will be polished copper. -Mr. Bad Idea That is just plain rude. Mentioning the sponsors is just courtesy on a project. -Bit-tech has become too much of a political battleground for modders, it's a hobbie folks. -What are you talking about, there is only one project that I ever did not complete, the Media PC, and I still completed most of it anyways. So if I missed something please point it out to me, the only other project I can think of that I posted here was the Laser PC and it's not dead at all, there are photos on my website of the real parts, but the details are not worth posting yet. Also check the Ammo PC thread, it started with rendering before I even had the case shipped, this is no different, it's just good planning, what is wrong with planning? When did I ever say "look at me I'm the pwn"? Because others say it doesn't mean 'I' said it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was posted ealier, but so far (All but one project) what I have made in 3D I do make a reality: Plans: http://www.zapwizard.com/lanpc/Angle.jpg Real: http://www.zapwizard.com/lanpc/HighRes/Connectors.jpg Plans: http://www.zapwizard.com/ATI/pc-front.jpg Real: http://www.zapwizard.com/ati/highres/02-Angle-Big.jpg Plans: http://www.zapwizard.com/projects/Kingston/Plans/3d.jpg Real: http://server2.uploadit.org/files/zapwiz-Cimg0165.jpg Plans (older): http://www.zapwizard.com/projects/wood/plans/wood-4.jpg Real (So far): http://www.zapwizard.com/projects/wood/plans/real.jpg
Fanatik...let it go. MrBadidea never told Zap to stop modding, he simply said it would be respectful for him to stop gathering tons of attention to himself, and to let new modders come in with their ideas... I think I'm becoming more mellow as it gets later and later EDIT: Well hello to the neighbor above... I'll add some "constructive criticism" now, just for you Had's . First off, I think Zap did a nice job not flipping out, but handling it calmly. Second, the mod looks good. Period. I'll leave it at that, since my ideas aren't welcome. Good luck .
