I have just bought a Radeon9800Pro and have plugged my LG 1710B into the DVI port on it. I have all the drivers installed for both the monitor and the graphics card but the I can't get the monitor to run at a refresh rate above 60hz.

On my old graphics card GeForce4 MX440, using a D-SUB input I could achieve the monitor's maximum refresh rate of 75hz.

I am using the latest Catalyst drivers for the graphics card with the catalyst control panel and the drivers that came with the monitor.

    Help greatly appreciated!

That's cause DVI is set at 60hz, it wont do any faster nor is it like a CRT.

Thanks for the info, didn't realise that!

Would you reccomend running at 60hz DVI or 75hz D-SUB then?

60Hz DVI, use it most definitely.

the advantage of TFTs is that the image is not updated top-down like on CRT displays - the entire display changes at once. so it doesn't flicker, even at the "low" rate of 60Hz.

i tried using the D-sub cable included with my 1760NX, man was it blurry....

Are you checking this from Display control panel? I can get it to say it in there, but when I open the monitor's OSD it says just 60hz

Fod: I haven't really noticed a difference between DVI and D-SUB

Yeah you could probably run an LCD at 30Hz and not notice a problem.
My VGA/D-Sub LCD is pretty crisp, but then again I've never seen a DVI flat panel in person (in native res on DVI anyways) so I can't really compare it.

    Regardless, DVI > VGA

in the ati control panel there is an option to reduce refresh for hifg rez digital displays, uncheck that and you should be able to hit 75hz ...

and as for dvi vs vga ... ill never use the 15 pin connection ever again. my samsung 172w is so much brighter and crispy-er on the dvi (radeon 9600 pro)

    60Hz DVI here.

If you got the choice between VGA & DVI, DVI!!!! no contest.

Yea, you are running 1024x768. An LG1710b runs 1240x1024 native.

    ahh so it does!

and yeah mine L1710B is also locked at 60Hz

/.....if i knock the 18" up to 1280x1024 that too locks out at 60Hz

    I also got a L1510B that runs at 1024x768 at 75Hz
