If accurate, then this is a fantastic breakthrough for console gaming. It's basically a win/win for everyone. Gamers will be able to buy any game they choose (especially as the PS2 gets a lot of East Asia-exclusive games) and Sony will have a better time in court as the argument that "modchips are for import gaming" will become redundant.

The only people I can foresee becoming upset by this policy change is the retailers themselves. They'll argue that sales will suffer due to imported games, but that wont hold water because if you do the maths, a $49 US game works out about about £28. Play.com will sell you the same game for £29 inc delivery. Actually it again works out better for the average gamer as hopefully retailers will put pressure on publishers to release games simultaneously across the globe. No more getting your arse kicked online because some America kid has had the game a month longer than you.

The only point I didn't appreciate in the article was Sony using the PAL/NTSC excuse for region coding. That's bull tbh, it's very easy for a game to support both NTSC and PAL signals. They did it for money, plain and simple.

Anyway, lets hope Microsoft and Nintendo follow suit. :thumb:
