Gah, just went to buy a pack (Railroad Tycoon) and came up with an error "This subscription is not available for purchase in your country." Just puts me off, I only really wanted Sid Meier's Railroads, but I could save $5 and get all three. Why do publishers do this? Its stupid. Do you think if enough people asked we could get them to remove region locking? I know its not Steams fault.
2K games actually. Plus I am getting two different prices for COD:4? ones $70 ones $40. EDIT: Damn it, COD:4 is region locked too!!! That's Activision. I even have Railroad Tycoon II as a physical game. But I still want it on Steam.
yeah i agree its annoying we get charged a fair bit more then other countries from what ive seen at physical stores as well
I nearly bought bioshock through steam until i realised it was more expenisve after the x-rate than buying the box. (Of course then the DRM hit the fan....)
Yes, but would the games work after using the proxy server? Plus the Call of Duty 4 I can buy at $70, but not at $40. At $40 I would buy it.
actually i dont think you need it for that just to grab the initial license actually this might be worth testing.
Well in theory you'd only need the proxy to make the purchase (though you'd probably need region-specific purchase info too). If you need to proxy through for the download too then you'd have to for playing as well, which is pretty much useless. If you want I'd be willing to rig up my connection for a little while for you to give it a try... should be a simple matter of creating another user account on my system and setting up an SSH tunnel, right?
I'll be doing the same later today there are quite a few apps that i want off the US side of things and my paypal account is still a US one in other news considering that the courts here found that region encoding dvds was not permitted due to it being a restraint of trade i wonder if this could be applied to steam
