someone just posted something a couple days ago about making an IR control for your computer. i looked back, but cant find it. it posted a link to a site with an in-depth tutorial on how to make it. actually, it might have been vhforums.net (virtual hideout), but could some1 post it again?

no no, it wasnt that. some1 gave a link to a site that told how to build an IR reciever. not a transmitter, but a reciever.

hmm, the search feature doesnt work 4 me. if it works for someone, could they search for "irda", and give me links to the results? none of those were it, thanks anyway.

    help !!

although i studed 1 year of electronics at university, i still dont know my positives to negatives. :)

please can u help me find the maplin codes for the following, i have tried but i cant seem to get anywhere. or what is the equivelent components maplin stock.....

    Building The Sensor

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sensor is quite easy to build, and is very cheap. The parts are all very common and can be bought at your local electronics’ shop.
These are the parts needed for the sensor:
    - Capacitor (C1): 10µF, 16V
    - Capacitor (C2): 100nF
    - Resistor (R1): 4,7kOhm
    - Diode (D1): 1N4148
    - IR-Receiver (IC1): TSOP1838 (by Vishay)
    - Voltage-Regulator (IC2): 78L05, 100mA, TO-92(package)
    - Connector: RS232, female, 9pins
    - Case: suitable for the connector
    - Shrink Sleeve: As tin as possible
    - Copper wire

ive found everything apart from the IR-Reciever or an equivelent, and the Voltage Regulator....

    please help

The IR Reciever can be found at www.rswww.com . Part number: 286-1425. Good news, its only a quid.

I haven't checked for the voltage regulator yet, will do later on.
Im bulding this myself so in return can you post the order numbers for the rest of the parts you have found :D .

    Thanks

    Looks spot on to me.

Only problem i can see is all the extra shipping im gonna have to pay  .

Tried consolidating all the parts to one retailer but as you've probably checked already, it cannot be done.

On looking at the guide though it does state that most of these parts can be subsituted but unfortunatly i dont have the knowledge to do so without screwing the whole thing up.

Anyway, thanks again for the list and dont forget to post updating your progress.
