The thinkgeek remote looks cool... but (you saw that one coming didn't you?) I'm not looking for a pc remote reciever, I'm looking for a infrared dongle. All I want to do it transfer data via IR Heres a pic... Anyone have any idea as to how to build one for my serial port?
like i said in my previous post... http://come.to/uir/ <--- this IS the right site its just down atm for some reason
great then, now all I need is a working website and a pic programmer. Let me know when the site is back up.
ok. what remote control have you guys actually been using? does it matter....coz obviously i have 3 other remotes in my bedroom- would they conflict with PC?.... someone please explain to me...im a noob.. saw the thread thought what a wicked idea..ordered the bits...etc..
wouldn't it be better to use a RF transmitter/receiver and connect that to the com port? You could also use 2 RF transceivers so you can have traffic in both directions. I've posted a thread somewhere around here in which I made my MO LCD wireless...
i recently got hold of an IR sensor from a packard bell, problem is i cant get it to work... ther is an IR socket on my mobo (Abit KT7a) and i have enabled it the IR socket in bois but the programs cant find it (windows does - but i think its because of the enabling on the bios). The programs that are around only look for external (serial) devices. So would anyone be able to help me wire up this IR sensor to a serial? Piccy below There are four wires there (White,Black,Blue and red)
hmmm. i dont know how u would wire that to a serial. as for trying different proggys, did u try girder ( www.girder.nl )? that may work. there are many different plugins for different IR devices.
Digital Fodder, I think I might have read something that might help. Try it out and let me know whether it works. I read somewhere on some PDA page that to set it up you must enable your irport in your bios and disable one of your existing serial ports. From what I understand, that will assign the ir to the port you disabled. I'll try this at home too (dispite the lack of an ir) and I'll let you know what happens. If it works for you let me know so that I can go ahead and build an ir for myself.
