I want to set this up so I can control the my mom's computer (windows 98) when user is on it without the user knowing. So say if my sister goes on it, I can mess with her, like take over control of her mouse and that. Lol. But how do I get it setup properly? I'm running Windows XP pro and they both now have remote desktop program, but I get this error when I type in the IP address for my mom's computer or the computer name.

Then when I click browse for computer I see the workgroup (called WORKGROUP) which both computers are in, but I get this error when I click the plus sign.

What's the problem? I would prefer to use Windows program, so please try to help then just suggesting another program. Unless it won't work.

Okay, I tried it the other way around, it worked perfectly from the Windows 98 computer. But not the way I want it.

    Edit:
Using tightvnc instead. so mod can close this thread.

BTW remote desktop wouldn't do what you would want anyways. The remote desktop is like login onto the computer like it was the one you are on. So the user can only be logged one time so to get in your sister would have to be logged off. VNC is what you want as you have already noticed.

Yeah, figured that out when I tried it from my mom's computer to control mine. It works that way, but it does not work the other way around. The PC you want to control needs XP Pro. VNC worked like a charm.

He has already solved the problem, so no need for suggestion of another tool.

remote desktop isn't natively supported in windows 98 hence why you get that error when trying to connect to your mom's pc.

Yeah found that out doing little Google research, it works with the other way around because Pro supports it. But it kicks the user off when you login remotely. So that's a no go.
