I want to build a remote 7/12v fanbus, but am not sure about the power vs wire gague part of it. The bus will have controls for 6 fans (5 switches for 80mm's and 1 switch for 3 40mm) so I will need at least 14 wires... What I'm concerned about is the main power & ground wires. To do this, I would like to use a hacked up svga cable and am real concerned that the tiny wires won't be able to handle the current for all the fans. Will this be the case? If so, if I use a seperate power & ground lead, will the svga cable wires handle the load for a single fan (well, the tripple 40mm)?

    Does this make any sense?

The guage for DSub [ VGA, serial, printer & the like ] pins is something along the lines of 26.

Dunno about how much that can handle though, I was told it's Google-able.

i don't know how much they handle, but if yoy TRY to make them glow you will fail with an 2 amp power suply.... thin cables can handle pretty much.. depends on material of course...

but try it out.. i don't think those cables are THAT expensive.. ;)

Ive already done this using the guide off bit tech to suply the diagram. I got my wire from maplins, it had 7 cores in it each slightly thicker then standard PSU wire, I only have two channels on mine as I only have two case fans but this wire is more than enough for case fans
