I want to remote from windows to a lubuntu vm. Normally with ubuntu I would install xrdp and use remote desktop on windows. However I'm not having much success on the lxde edition. I use UltraVNC at work but I find it quite slow and it couldn't do full screen very well. Is there anything out there that can get good performance and can do full screen.

Ok for anyone that is interested,

I tried x11vnc on lubuntu with realvnc viewer on windows. This was actually a decent set up, but the way the full screen scaled for me was not ideal (the host vm was at 1080p whilst the client was at 1600x900 this squashed a 1080 resolution into the smaller sized client window). Still, its the best scaling and performance I have seen on vnc so far. If host and client were 1080p this would be a good solution. The other trouble I had with this was that I could not get the x11vnc to start on boot

I tried to get vino working on lubuntu to no avail.

I installed the lxde gui on to a straight ubuntu VM. Using the hidden file .Xsessions in the home directory I was able to point xrdp to to the lxde gui. By default when using xrdp with ubuntu it will send the remote session to unity 3d. When I remoted to the lxde session the performance was terrible.

I installed gnome classic shell on ubuntu and by editing the .xsessions again file I pointed the xrdp session to gnome-classic.

This gui gives me the performance over the network I require as well as the scaling of rdp(which I was originally trying to achieve by using the lubuntu distribution).

For a minute there I thought you'd gone all esoteric. Team Viewer might be what you're looking for. You could also take a shot at xrdp.

I realised late last night the virtual box has a freaking remote desktop server built right in. That doesn't require any installation on the O/S and can take multiple connections. However its good to know about team viewer. I must give it a whirl sometime as I dual boot as well go with vms.
