I'm thinking about going out and getting some vinyl dye this weekend to paint my CD drives in my case. :D

My question is how do I remove the trays from the CD drives?

Yeah I seen that too. So Linear if you are there, let me know how you did it.

Oh and by the way I just want to your site linear and some guy said after he painted the tray of his burner he caught fire. Man did your catch fire too?

If any one else painted there tray, did your catch fire?

be it far from me to discourage a mod, but didn't I read somewhere here where someone used either paint or vinyl dye on his CD tray, only for it to catch fire when using the drive?
Of course, he may have used gasoline to thin the paint... :D

EDIT: Whoop! Beat me to it, BlackFlux....

I have to get rid of that clear plastic blue look. I have a TDK burner and thats the color of the CD drive tray.

If I only painted the tray cover, that would look sick (A clear blue tray with a black tray cover). I have to do something about that.

OK, any fires you set are your problem ;)

with the drive tray open, look for a release lever--it should be near the part of the tray that catches on some piece of plastic to stop the forward travel of the tray. Just push the lever in the right direction (they're a little different) and the tray should release.

I think someone was just trying to squeeze me for a free CD-RW, BTW. Having said that, if you didn't wait for the vinyl color to dry, I could *easily* see the thing going up in a blaze. Solvent madness.

    *flame on*

Once again linear has come through with the answer to my question. But for real, so i shouldn't have anything to worry about when it comes to the CD drive catching fire, right? :D

Mine didn't, so statistically speaking, you have 50% chance of catching on fire...
