lo chaps well i need some help... im doin my project log and ive hit a bump in the road....i need to remove 15 or more rivets from my case....im using my mates dremel clone with a drill bit that fits the rivet hole..but even after 20mins of full speed drilling nothing is happening...except the hole is getting deeper..but its still not removed properly.. whats the best way of doing it and are there any inexpensive tools i can use with a normal drill and dremel that can remove rivets easily. thanks chaps!
I use a drill size which is one size bigger than the rivets hole. That way, you drill the rivets head off and not through it like in your case
In my experience, drilling out rivets in Pc cases I use a 1/8 drill bit. Just make sure as you're drilling make sure the head isn't spinning as you're drilling it out.
I usually use either a drill bit or sometimes if you can get to the back simply cut it off with a pair wire cutters.
I use a Dewalt 1/4" drill bit that has as slight pilot sticking out - http://www.dewalt.com/us/products/accessory_detail.asp?productID=2864 - It is a very nice sert of bits that only costs $10 or so. The 1/4" one is perfect for pop rivets. The small pilot point gets into the rivet while the larger part snaps off the head. You end up with the rivet attached to your drill bit instead of the case. With this bit and needlenose pliers to pull the rivet off the drill bit, you can drill out a rivet in about 5 seconds.
i just use a 1/8" bit and push down with the drill, goes right through her, and takes the head up onto the bit for me.
