I've seen before in someone's worklog, the name of whom escapes me now, a form of wire management that made it seem as if the ATX plug were not connected, or even present. At the moment, I can't remember how it was done, but it got me thinking. Would it be possible to relocate the ATX plug, or wires, to make it appear that there is no power connection? What I was thinking would be to remove the Mainboards 'casing' around the plug and either 1) extending the pins via wires around to the back of the board, and reconnecting the casing from the other side, or 2) removing the casing and the pins, and resoldering the pins to the other side, and then placing the casing. I'm fairly sure 1 would work, and I know the casing can be switched around, since its maintained by simple plastic clippy things, but could the pins be resoldered at all?
i can't find the link but there is one project log where he or she is doing that so it looks like the Mobo is not even pluged in, i could not find it but if you check the project logs section
I have also seen it somewhere around the projekt log forum.... Althou I know what he did....He put the ATX connector on the backside of the mobo then just wired it up behind the mobo plate
Careful you don't just rewire the connector straight to the back of the board - all the connections have to be mirrored
duh anyway be REALLY REALLY carefull reconnecting everything, there is a MAJOR risk of damaging your motherboard (and all components stuck into it)
I'm pretty sure it was Zap-Wizard who did that. I think when he redid the PSU connector he accidentaly plugged it into a normal mobo and fried the mobo.
I wouldn't mind doing this either To an old P1 or something... Too risky imo unless you get loads of free stuff like ZapWizard does, or have so much money you don't know what to do with it (I wish I had one of those kind of problems) Good luck though, invest in a good soldering iron
Oh yea, this wouldn't be done If I end up doing it >_> without PLENTY of practice on crapboards and the like, and only if I had a side budget I'd like to spend because my dumb ass b0rked the project... ^_^
you'd be ok if you soldered the connector on with jumper leads rather than resoldering the block to the back of the board, you could correct for the differnt locations, best bet in an ATX Power extender as they already have the leads attached.
i think youll have to move the mobo tray forward so the side pannel could slide in without getting in the way of the wires
