Hey all This a longshot but who knows basicaly I have a 1.2, 54 plate renault clio mk2 and its developed this strange problem where it randomly goes into limp mode and displays the electrical warning light, restart the car and its fine till it happens again. I have no clue what it is the car only has 25 000k on the clock so Im abit miffed to say the least. cheers guys
I'm guessing that there's all sorts of problems that could cause this kind of thing but my guess would be that it's a dodgy connection somewhere, maybe to a sensor or something. Moriquendi
Get it down to a tech with a diagnostic computer - the ECU will likely have registered an error code. What I would do is disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the ECU then drive around until it does it again, then go straight to the garage and get them to read it fresh. That way you don't have other, old error codes left in there. Chances are it'll be an engine sensor that needs replacing.
Renault, err where do i start... the electrics on most clio's is shocking after a while, you just start counting what still works on the car and go from there. Whats the temp gauge reading when it happens?
Temp gauge is one of those digital ones and always stays on 4 bars regardless, Also had the sensors checked and everytime it threw up completly different codes, the wiring loom was also checked and was ok. Thanks Mark
sounds daft but re-seat all the bulbs on the car, if water has got in one of the sealed units and caused a intermittent short then it could throw the car into limp mode. Also has it got a sunroof?
8 or 16 valve engine? I think the 16v engines have frequent issues with the coil packs, which can cause similar symptoms
Hmm... Sounds like a job for your local mobile car-tuning bloke - ours is really good. Not cheap, but cheaper than fiddling around replacing sensors and coilpacks left and right, not to mention paying a garage for the pleasure.
Its a 16v version and yes it does have a sunroof (Manual one). Well I have had a a race car mechanic look at it twice but he was clueless, but I will check all of the seals on everything. Mark
