After a recent (very unsucessful) attempt at stealthing my CD RW , I have totally screwed up my two remaining blanking plates . Any ideas where I can either buy new ones (black ones preferably) or any ideas on good replacement material (it would need to be very similar thickness , because I have recently installed one of those great Maplin gadgets for temp readout ) . Thanks for any help you give .

If you aren't picky, and located in the states... Directron has plastic plates for $1

if you are stealthing a drive then it won't matter what pc the blanking plates are from so you could either get some from your friends or "borrow" them from some kind of public computer. You could then spray the drives black with some spray paint.

Thanks both of you . I will desend upon the local library , owned by a friends mum , and pillage the spares box . Any ideas on what paint to use (I go to LAN parties a load , and I would loose a big bundle of cred if I go with scratched up plates) ?
Also , what happened to Laser Bays , I heard about them , and I was going to get one , but I can't find anywhere that sells them .

you want a a spray paint like a fast drying enamal. If you are in the uk then go to focus or homebase and you should beable to pick up the right kind of paint in a small spray paint can. The brand is odds n' ends or something like that.

If you get plastic blanks... use vinyl dye
If you get metal blanks... use enamel

If you want fast drying enamel in a spray can then the make you will probably get is "Plastikote" the product you are after is "Odds & Ends" comes in a large array of colours and costs about £2.98. Well atleast it does from the Focus where i work :) That will get you a small spray can which will probably do you a dozen or so drive covers!! Probably a lot more!!
