Someone I know is looking for a replacement for this mobo. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&docname=c01077676 which is an AM2 M-ATX.

Obviously this should not be a problem except he has just bought extra RAM so wants a board compatible with it. His RAM is DDR2 256x64 PC2-5300 He also want to use Win 7 64bit.

I would be grateful for a bit of help here with mobo suggestions.

Any further info needed I will try and answer.

EDIT: Just to clarify,he wishes to use all his existing components hence the need of a similar mobo.

i don't think it really matters what you get. matx boards used to be a bit pants and with such an old socket i would recommend NOT getting another one.

tell him he's an idiot and hit him over the head with a stick repeatedly until he realises there's no point. lol By my calculation (256*64) he's now got himself 16gb ram? all the am2 boards i looked at look 8gb max, so he won't even be able to use all of it.

Also is this the same guy who got the 7870? if so whatever cpu he's got is going to seriously bottleneck his graphics. hell, the 460 is probably getting choked! lol there's an i3 system going in the marketplace for £160 he could get http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=255461 or cpu and mobo for 170.
EDIT Or brand new goods http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/9200a93bb7894323a0d71445aa6286e5

Oops my mistake he has 6Gb and no he is not the same guy who got the 7870, which by the way Aria eventually decided was faulty.

Seems like it would be fine to me. One thing, since this is replacing a HP motherboard, you may have non-standard headers for the front panel connections and possibly USB, audio e.t.c

Edit: Looking at the motherboard diagram, it looks like only the CPU fan connector is non-standard and the front panel connections should be easy enough to work out.
