Why go with something as complicated as the Sentry? Wouldn't a simple fan controller like this be easier? Much easier to adjust than the Sentry.

EDIT: Although I just noticed that it's more expensive for some reason (and a lot more expensive than it is here).

That and the fact that he may not be able to close his case door with that installed - the buttons would stick out too far.

Hey all, sorry for the late reply, been incredibly busy revising for an exam.

    Update:
I haven’t bought anything yet as there has been a development and it seems my initial assessment wasn’t completely accurate. My brother popped up to wish me happy birthday on the Sunday and just generally to shoot the **** and we got to talking about me pc troubles. So he was curious and we started tinkering:

Kaput fan: FIXED! It turns out it was plugged in to one of two duff connectors on the same branch. We plugged it in to a free four pin on a different branch and POW! It spins up and runs normally.

Worn bearings fan: Yeah, It’s dead. You can almost COUNT the rpm’s and that’s when it’s set to high.

Wearing fan: Popped it out and give a more thorough cleaning than I had first time around, getting in to some of the nooks and crannies that were inaccessible while it was fixed to the case and POW! Working normally.

SO! What AM I going to do?
I’ve had my thinking hat on and have been thinking about popping the fan off the top of my case (the one I thought was beginning to wear) and popping it on the front fan mount as an intake fan. I’m guessing that’s what the mount on the front of the case is meant for but I don’t want to disrupt the airflow if it was meant as another extraction fan. Thoughts?

I’m going strip out the fan with knackered bearings and use it as target practice for my new tin of RWS Hollow points. I’ll replace the top and back fans with two nice new Sharkoon 2000 rpm’s and grab me a couple of step-down resistors. KERPLAH!

+Rep to everyone I haven’t already repped and a big thank you to you all for all the help!

The rule is Front and side, intakes; Top and back, exhausts :)

Second thoughts, I think I'll grab the Scythe GT 1450 rpm fans. My tricool's on high make an awful lot of noise.

I reckon using one of the two remaining tricools on medium as an intake fan will off set the extra 550rpm boost I would have gotten from the 2000rpm Sharkoons.

I bought 4 120mm Blue LED fans from Ebuyer for £2.99 each, I cannot complain... Overall temps dropped by 8-10C and as far as noise goes they are silent, my expensive akasa fan is very loud!

I bet the bearings will go fairly fast, then they'll be loud :p

Just bought two 1450 Scythe GT's and two Zalman step downs from scan. I'll update with opinions when they arrive and I get around to fitting them.

    Thanks again guys!

I got my Scythe 1450's on Wednesday (along with a new CPU cooler) and my hard drives spinning up is now the loudest thing in my case. Well worth $18 each.

Hope you like them as much as I do!

After some technical "hiccups" the fans are in and they are brilliant! I've also had a chance to do some tidying with my cables and a combination of the fans and the tidy cables have done wonders for my temps!
