    Well I have a BenQ 241W. Its a nice 24" 16x10 1920x1200 Monitor.
It getting on a bit and was thinking of a replacement.
I've seen the U2711 suggested as a good monitor but I think its 27" 16x9.
How much more screen area will I get considering its vertically squashed and so the diagonal is different?

The u2711 is 2560x1440, so you get 240 more pixels. I also think the display can be rotated to have 2560 vertical pixels.

The area in red is what you will lose if you go from 2560x1600 (16:10) to 2560x1440 (16:9).

    I think he's going from 1920x1200 to 2560x1440, not from a 30" one.

I went from the Benq to a U2711 the extra res is great but the anti glare coating on the Dell is a black mark in what could be an awesome display.

Preferred the clarity of the Benq and to be honest would probably be better served by two of them, 2560 is not enough extra width for me, I thought it would be plenty as it sounds a lot more than 1920 but its not enough, for my software I don't really benefit from the extra 240 either, didn't want multi screens at home due to gaming (consoles/PC etc) had hoped one large screen would suffice, roll on proper QFHD screens.

anti glare coating needs to be seen as its very much if love or hate thing, Most on here would say its fine but theres alot who hate dell for the coating.

Depends on the sort of room your computer is based in and light conditions it has.

I may be about to go for a U2711, while I like 16:10 displays, I'm hoping the extra pixels overall will make up for it (coming from 1200p)

    Thanks for all your replies.
I was trying to work out the difference in screen x/y between a 24" 16x10 and a 27" 16x9 display.
Time to get out my calculator and remember school trig. :)

Well after that trip down memory lane and a quick check against my current monitor we have:

    24" 16x10 = 20.35" x 12.7"
    27" 16x9 = 23.53" x 13.24"

    (hopefully correct)

So I've got about 3" horizontal and 0.5" vertical extra before I take into account the resolution change.
