    Hi All,
So for Christmas the other I got an expected RAM upgrade and an unexpected monitor upgrade.
Anyway for a while now I have been planning on upgrading my Graphics card (X800GTO) and my PSU (Hiper 525w PSU).
I bought an XFX 8800GTX from eBay for a steal as untested. I plugged it in and get nothing displayed on the screen just a high pitched screech, which I have read is that the card is not getting enough power, also the PSU is fairly old and I have heard reports that they are unreliable.
I have around £65 to play with, and I am looking to get another supply with a lot of power that is man enough to run this card assuming it works...
Ihave my eye on this CLICK HERE as I know it uses a Seasonic supply and it has a 5 year warranty.
Anyone have any better ideas or alternatives?
    Thanks:thumb:

Thats a great PSU. But you could easily run that card on a 380 Earthwatts PSU
The 12Volt rails on you're current PSU are probably just too week.
Or else its a dud. :(

I think the current is too week. It only has a 30A 12v rail. It is over 6 years old.
Ideally I am looking to have a PSU that will last a long time, and if the card is a dud then maybe power a 460 if the birthday fairy delivers.
That said we have a couple of 380 earthwatts at work as "spares" I will try one of them when the festive season is done.

Good find and it is modular, This is currently at the top of my list then, the XFX has been knocked off. I am looking to order before Monday, so will check out a couple of other reviews than BT/CPC one, although if they recommend it, that is good enough for me.

That Antec TruePower New 650w is a great PSU.

It is £59 @ Scan (on their Today Only page) until Tuesday - the price may go up after that.

To be honest, it is the cheapest you will find that PSU. Search jonnyguru and read the reviews, it is a great piece of kit.

/says a happy Antec TruePower New 650w owner

Another vote here for the Truepower New, had I had the cash I'd have gone for it but settled for an Earthwatts instead - it'll be in my next build for definite if it's still around by then.

The bandwagon needs a sticky already!!

Just buy the Antec. Win. The XFX is noiser, and an older Seasonic design which seems to suit higher power ratings better.

Someone asked for a list of good PSU's in this thread (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=200453) and one of the responses pointed people here: http://www.overclock.net/power-supplies/183810-faq-recomended-power-supplies.html.

I have to admit, that list, which gets updated regularly, is a good list.

LOL Yes, it was the Antec, the modular and newer design, along with the + review from the BT/CPC community made it a no brainer.

Thanks again for the heads up

Just for anyone else, if you were worried about the VAT rise the Antec has gone up two measly quid to £67.16 inc vat today, still a great price. Maybe VAT will just mean nothing until it's time for a whole new build.

Well I got my Antec TruePower New 650w yesterday and fitted it this morning. Must say it's a lovely little PSU. My last one was quiet whether at idle or load but this one at idle is completely silent. Not tried it under load yet but I'm guessing it will remain silent or near so.

Anyways I'm high-jacking the thread :worried:. How did you find yours dancingbear? You happy with it?

    Hi Fizzbang,
No worries regarding the hijack and it's on topic. So my card arrived on Thursday but I had to sort out in-laws malware issue, fitted but didn't test. Friday was my birthday so I was out on the beer, Saturday I was playing CoD BlackOps on PS3 (a birthday present) so have not had time to have a go until today. It is nice, well built PSU, the connectors are solid and as you said it is quiet. I replaced my old IDE HDD with a 500gb SATA, the IDE is now in the Sky + box, more storage for me. The noisiest thing now are the case fans and the CPU cooler.
Anyway back on topic I'm liking the PSU, now just need to get a few more bits and bobs and I am happy, well at least for a week or 2 LOL
