so the motherboard I was looking at is now sold out (at newegg anyway)... how are the Asus K8N boards?

edit: ok i think the best question would be what's a decent socket 754 board with sata, agp8x, ddr400, onboard sound & lan for <$90?

Any particular reason why you've chosen a Plextor drive?

If they sold the NEC 4550 or 4551, either of those would be top of the list, but they don't... so the Pioneer 110D is my next recommendation, for just $39.

Alternatively... there's this Lite-on 165H6S with LightScribe (and support for DVD-RAM - if it matters) for $55?

Everything else looks hunky dory though :cooldude:

I built a new system for my dad a little over a year ago that is an ASUS K8N and a 3000+. It's been rock solid for him and plays every game he wants to throw at it. He's got a 5900XT btw. I'd say that he'll need a video card upgrade in the future, but the rest of the system will still last him for a while yet. No to mention Newegg has the K8N for $65 including shipping.

i've had bad experiences with lite-on burners (two crapped out on me)

and I might look into the NEC....

and i think the K8N is out of stock
