Due to recent event I have decided the lock on my door needs replacing, spoke to my landlord and he agrees but due to other jobs he is unable to complete the work so said I can sought it out I was wondering is it possible to change a lock yourself its only an internal door or do you have to call someone out?

    thanks

Is it a Yale type or a mortice lock? If it's a Yale type, you can just buy the new cylinder for the lock, with new keys. If it's a mortice lock, you can easily swap it out for a new one, as long as they have the same dimensions. Just take the old mortice to a hardware store and compare.

Dead easy as said ^^ No need to call anyone out!

Look at the edge of the door and you'll find some screws, just unscrew them and make it up as you go along.

Everything can be done yourself. As profqwerty said.

    Clicky

I was changing doorlocks before I started secondary school- my Dad had a habbit of saving old ones and reusing them, had containers full of different types in the garden shed...

Nah, just our front door after some keys were lost- its so simple to do, just a few screws and maybe a metal ring to undo to remove the whole barrel and latch mechanism.

If anyone is interested in saving themselves money on tradesmen, pick up a copy of the Readers Digest DIY manual, great book that tells you how to do everything from plumbing to electrics :)
