Hi guys As part of my little project, I'm going to move the mains switch on the back of my PSU, and replace it with an illuminated red rocker switch. Although I'm certainly no electronics expert, I don't expect this to be too serious a job - disconnect the old switch, re-wire the new one. However, I'm not sure about the ratings I'll need for the switch. I have had a look around, but I've not been able to either find the info, or understand the circuit diagrams well enough! Secondly, I'm also going to replace the case power microswitch with a rocker, but I need a rocker switch that returns to "off". I.e. a sprung one. My question on this is what are they called? Searching for "rocker switch" on the RS website returns hundreds of different types of switch, and I'm just not sure what the correct terminology is! Thanks in advance for any tips,
Hi Peanut, Mains switch : the simplest way is to look at the switch you are replacing - it's rating might be marked on the side, most probably something like '250V XA' where X is the amps. Then get a similar rating switch as that one (no harm in getting higher volts or amps, just that the cost will be more). Case switch : what you are looking for is a 'momentary' type. More info here: http://case-mods.linear1.org/case-mod-101-the-atx-power-switch-demystified/ Do a search for 'momentary rocker switch' at the RS website will give you lots of choices. One advice regarding the main switch replacement: mains wiring is dangerous. Get help from someone who knows how to do it, even if it looks simple. ARM
Hi ARM Thanks for your help. "momentary".. that's the word I was after!! I'll get as much help and info as possible before I try and get this working, trust me! Edit: Reading that link - putting another toggle in series with the mains power switch might be a safer idea... Cheers,
